Operating systems provide a user interface, which can be command-line based or graphical, allowing users to interact with the computer system. They also enforce security measures, controlling access to system resources to protect against unauthorized use. Common examples of operating systems include Microsoft Windows, macOS for Apple computers, Linux for both desktops and servers, and mobile operating systems like Android and iOS.
In addition to these core functions, operating systems offer a range of services to application software, such as input/output operations, system monitoring and logging, and networking capabilities.
